Dixon Road

A Musical Stage Company & Obsidian Theatre Company Production, in Association with Canadian Stage

Book, Music, and Lyrics by Fatuma Adar

A new Canadian musical with book, music, and lyrics by Fatuma Adar. Dixon Road tells the story of a Somali family who immigrate to Canada in 1991 as the civil war begins to tear their homeland apart. They settle in Dixon Road, in a neighbourhood near Pearson airport that is still the heart of Toronto’s Somali community today.

Combining traditional Somali melodies, R&B and contemporary verse, Dixon Road is an exhilarating journey about dreams, displacement, and finding a new sense of home. Join The Musical Stage Company & Obsidian Theatre Company for the arrival of an extraordinary new Canadian musical.

The preview performances on Wednesday, June 1 and Thursday, June 2 have been cancelled.

All patrons affected by these changes will be contacted by our Box Office in the coming days.
We thank you for your patience and understanding.

THE MUSICAL STAGE COMPANY

The Musical Stage Company is the largest and leading charitable musical theatre company in Canada. Established in 2004, we strive to make Canada a leader in musical theatre.

Dixon Road is presented as part of The Musical Stage Company's MARQUEE Festival.  A city-wide celebration of musical storytelling, MARQUEE offers 4 weeks of wildly joyful musical programming throughout the Greater Toronto Area. Embracing the city as our stage by lighting up parks, porches, streets and traditional theatre venues, MARQUEE unleashes a burst of musical experiences across Toronto with unexpected moments of musical creativity and spontaneous community gatherings.

Running May 28- June 25, MARQUEE’s slate of multifaceted, electrifying activity includes full productions, star-studded concerts, community-based performances and participatory pop-ups, reinvigorating the city, reminding us all why it’s better with music.

OBSIDIAN THEATRE COMPANY

Obsidian is Canada’s leading culturally specific theatre company with a threefold mission to produce plays, develop playwrights, and train emerging theatre professionals. Obsidian Theatre Company was born out of a passionate sense of artistic responsibility – a responsibility to bring the Black voice, in its many artistic dialects, to Canada’s cultural forefront. Obsidian produces plays from a worldwide canon focusing primarily on the works of highly acclaimed Black playwrights while providing artistic support and promoting the development of work by Black theatre-makers.
