In 2019, Revisor’s sold-out run was one of Canadian Stage’s most popular and beloved shows. With their sophomore effort, the creative team behind the acclaimed and heartbreaking Betroffenheit prove it was no fluke. This time out, choreographer Crystal Pite and writer-actor Jonathon Young shift from an intensely personal story to one with a decidedly global scale filled with bureaucracy, corruption and social injustice.

Inspired by Nikolai Gogol’s 1836 play The Inspector General, Revisor is part risky satire, part choreographed lip-synch and all urgent warning of unchecked power. When a lowly government employee arrives in town to revise some legal documents, he is mistaken for a high-powered official and spoiled with attention. As it daringly changes tones and styles throughout, Revisor keeps audiences—and its eight dancers—on their toes.

“Witty, harrowing, beautiful, world class.”

Another chance to see the rousing dance/theatre hybrid.
