POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the High Park senior site management team, including Audience Services and Front of House (FOH) management, the Staffing/Volunteer Co-ordinator oversees all aspects of the volunteer program, including scheduling and supporting volunteers throughout the summer at Dream in High Park, one of Toronto’s most beloved summer cultural events.
Seasonal hires employed by Canadian Stage will be exposed to a wide range of live performance companies and gain firsthand operational experience through their interactions with these organizations, an invaluable advantage for artists at the beginning of their career and conferring them greater agency when they enter into the job market. The Staffing/Volunteer Co-ordinator will be monitored and provided with daily guidance, in addition to a mid-summer performance evaluation to discuss successes, challenges, and progress towards learning goals.
The position will receive health and safety orientation, including Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), and workplace violence and sexual harassment training, at the beginning of the placement. They will be closely supervised during the placement to ensure that Health and Safety guidelines are being followed. They will participate in the First Aid training and emergency procedures prior to the run of the show.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide orientation for all volunteers, both with an initial orientation for all volunteers at the beginning of the summer, and ongoing orientation throughout
- Maintain an up-to-date database of volunteer information in order to Screen, place and schedule volunteers
- Printing out shift schedules and email reminders on a daily basis to all volunteers
- Provide formal recognition while monitoring volunteer performance and managing challenges as they arise
- Ensure that volunteers represent Canadian Stage professionally and efficiently
- Responsible for clarity regarding specific volunteer positions and requirements
- Responsible for maintaining a fun environment for volunteers, including icebreakers before a shift and motivating volunteers while on shift
- Write a final report at the end of the summer and assist in updating The Dream volunteer coordinator manual
- Enforce site rules and policies regarding safety and theatre etiquette
- When needed, assist management and volunteers with the entry of patrons to performances to maximize capacity and comfort of audiences on the hill
- Deliver an exemplary level of customer service to Dream in High Park patrons.

QUALIFICATIONS
- 1 – 2 years in customer service/front-of-house positions is preferred
- Superior customer service skills and a friendly, outgoing nature
- Comfortable addressing/managing large groups of people
- Self-starter. Full training will be provided but in some cases successful candidate will be asked to work independently on assigned projects
- Ability to work outside in variable weather conditions from summer to fall
- Available to work evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.
- Punctuality and reliability, especially during high-volume, busy times at High Park
ELIGIBILITY
This position is funded under the federal government’s Canada Summer Jobs program. As such, applicants for this position must meet the following criteria:
- between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act,
- legally entitled to work in Ontario
