A powerful story of sisterhood and motherhood. Two generations of women, forced together by circumstance, face a violent war and a new reality of Taliban-ruled Afghanistan. In her adaptation of the epic novel by Khaled Hosseini (The Kite Runner), Ursula Rani Sarma brings its emotional resonance and social urgency to the stage.

When 15-year-old Laila is orphaned by a missile attack, she is married off to Rasheed, a volatile shoemaker. His first wife, Mariam, is skeptical of the new girl, but soon the two plot an escape with grave repercussions.

The powerful, riveting story captures a time and place few have experienced — a changing landscape filled with peril, sacrifice and, ultimately, hope.

“Radiant and real ... a stunning stage production. Almost defies you not to be moved.”

- THE SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE
