OAC Theatre Creators' Reserve Program

Funded through the Ontario Arts Council, The Theatre Creators' Reserve Program assists Ontario-based professional theatre creators and informal collectives of creators in developing new work.

Review the Ontario Arts Council TCR guidelines here.

Canadian Stage is happy to be a recommender for 2017-18. Submissions are now open and applications will be accepted until December 1, 2017.

Artistic Criteria:
Canadian Stage is primarily interested in new creations on a larger scale (this may be applied to length, cast/team size, design/space requirements, multi-displinarity or subject matter) and/or highly innovative (in form, use of media, style or subject matter).

Procedure:
Please submit the following support material:
  • A maximum one-page description of the project; what makes it unique; how it aligns with Canadian Stage's mandate; how the funding will be used if it the project is selected.
  • A maximum ten-page excerpt of the piece, should it already exist in a draft. If no draft exists yet, the applicant must provide a brief synopsis and information about structure and stylistic form within the one-page description.
  • A one-page CV.
  • A simple budget of how the money will be spent. Maximum grants are $5000.
  • 3 signed copies of OAC's Theatre Creators' Reserve Application and Recommendation Form (available for download here).
Our recommendations are based on the strength and potential of the project and the unique vision of the creators. Canadian Stage will only select 1-2 projects in this year's program, so the funding can have a greater impact on the life of the works selected.

Please note: Applicants will not be funded in two consecutive years, regardless of the project they apply with.

Please submit your material both in email and hard copy to Taliesin McEnaney at literary@canadianstage.com.
Please use Theatre Creators' Reserve Application in the subject line.
We ask that you send a hard copy to:

Attn: Taliesin McEnaney

Electronic applications are accepted in .doc or .pdf formats. Please do not attach heavy media files to your message.

Territorial Tales

Territorial Tales is a creative launching pad for young storytellers (ages 14-21) and emerging artists to share their experiences of displacement, migration and settlement through the development of short theatrical works.

In partnership with the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC), Sketch and Kids Up Front and presented as part of Canada’s 150, this new youth engagement project will grant 3 young creators the opportunity develop a new work this Spring under the mentorship of Canadian Stage, culminating in a final staging at the 35th anniversary of Shakespeare in High Park in August 2017. Selected participants will have the opportunity to collaborate with emerging directors and young performers to bring their projects to life.

SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST.

Script and Project Submissions

We are sorry, but Canadian Stage does not accept unsolicited script submissions at the moment.

However, we are always happy to hear about exciting new work in the making that fits our mandate, and we welcome playwrights and theatre creators who want to introduce themselves to Canadian Stage. If your play or project has an upcoming reading, workshop presentation or full production, please send an invitation (including a brief statement about why your work might be well suited for Canadian Stage's programming) to Taliesin McEnaney at tmcenaney@canadianstage.com, and we will try our best to have one of our artistic team members see it.
