"Fluid, explosive style" - The New York Times

a kidd pivot frankfurt rm production presented by canadian stage

Innovative and award-winning choreographer Crystal Pite’s work integrates original music, text, rich visual design, and a keen sense of wit and invention. Dark Matters is the result of Pite’s curiosity and fascination with the unseen forces at work on mind and body, and features seven extraordinary dancers and a stunning original score from long-time collaborator Owen Belton.

Both the dark matter theorized by physicists and the darker matters that drive us as humans are beautifully embodied in this potent and affecting theatrical fable combining pure dance and puppetry. Dark Matters is a haunting portrait of the unknown presented through breathtaking movement.

story through movement

by Mathew Jocelyn

At the Bluma this season, we’re thrilled to feature the work of two remarkable Canadian choreographers: Marie Chouinard and Crystal Pite. For the past 20 years, many of the most inventive, imaginative creators working in the performing arts have been from the world of contemporary dance. These artists are constantly pushing the boundaries of the body and of movement as part of the essential core of their storytelling.

The award-winning Crystal Pite, whose work has been critically acclaimed after recent performances with The National Ballet of Canada, and the Quebec sensation Marie Chouinard, whose work has toured throughout Europe, are without question two of our country’s most exciting dance-creators.

Both Crystal and Marie are deeply immersed in a world of theatrical expression, character and imagery, exploring the relationship between narrative and movement. It is that inventiveness, that boundless potential for a different sense of space and of expression that I find so fascinating in the world of dance. These choreographers have had a profound impact on makers of theatre throughout the world, constantly challenging our perceptions, constantly stimulating our emotions. We can’t wait to share their work with you.
