The Only Possible Way is an Iranian well-known episodic meta-theatrical play. It is an empiricist and multifaceted piece that defies the conventional structure of a linear plot. While the plot is nonlinear, it holds recurring themes. The format of the play is meant to inspire audience members to contemplate important subjects such as change, insecurity, immigration, violence, betrayal, responsibility and sacrifice; feelings that every human can relate to. The unhappy, fearful characters want to escape their current situation, including a teenage boy who is determined to run away from home, a couple that long for a better life away from their home country, a woman who is a victim of family violence, and an old man whose living situation leaves us questioning whether he has dementia or is trying to distance himself from his family. The characters yearn for a safe haven where they don’t have to fear being assaulted, arrested, or attacked.
